Teen Pregnancy and Abuse
- 1 in 4 teen mothers experience abuse in the year surrounding their pregnancy
- Teen mothers are twice as likely to be abused by their partners than adult mothers
- 66% of pregnant teens report histories of abuse
- Sexually active girls are more likely to remain in abusive relationships
Positive effects of abstaining
- Abstinent teens are 50 percent less likely to drop out of high school and are twice as likely to graduate from college
- Teens who abstain from sexual behavior on average make $340,000 more during their lifetime than teens who are sexually active
- Teens who abstain from sexual activity are less likely to use drugs and alcohol, experience depression, and engage in self injury.
